1966 Buick Wildcat Custom Sport Coupe For Sale
Opening the door and sitting in this heavily-optioned and original 30,477 miles special order Shadow Turquoise Poly paint code car w immaculate black interior is like transporting back in time to the Buick dealer showroom in 1966. In the daylight, its paint shines well and the exterior & vinyl top is also in exceptional original condition.
Last registered in 1985, this car has been sitting in its original owner’s home garage until we exposed her to daylight last year after an almost 40-year hibernation and we were a little surprised but also very pleased to see the overall beautiful condition of this Wildcat.

This unicorn has a bit of a story to tell and before we get into the details, here it is. Special-ordered after leaving the US Army, its original and only owner (prior to 2024) happened to be friends with the Wilmington, DE Buick plant manager. That relationship will explain the rear side marker lights being installed before they were available on the Wildcat. There are two original build sheets with the car – one found under the rear seat (pictured) & one tucked up inside the right fender.
Options: This vehicle has an overwhelming list of options (some rare) that includes but is not limited to: High-Performance 425 ci engine; Super Turbine Transmission; A/C; Power Steering, Brakes, Seat & Windows; Dual Exhaust; Performance Axle w 3:42 Gear ratio Posi Traction; Rear Window Defroster; Four Note Horn; Oversize White Walls w Chrome Plated Wheels; Four Note Horn; Sonomatic Radio & Power Antenna; Custom Vinyl Roof; Soft Ray Tinted Glass; Interior and Trunk floor mats (in impeccable condition); & a whole lot more (see original window sticker in photos). She even has a dealer-installed tissue dispenser under the dash.
Driving & Operational: Take a look at the twelve-minute video to see for yourself but in a nutshell – this car starts, runs, drives and handles as it should. The optional 425ci motor is torquey, responsive and is just waiting for you to get into it. The optional Super Turbine Transmission shifts crisply as it was made to do. The power steering offers a delightful driving experience and the power brakes provides confident stopping ability. You couldn’t convince us that we weren’t driving the car as it had left Kemp Buick in Harrisburg, PA. in 1966.
Watch the video for the car’s operations, but all the lights, signals, emergency flashers, wipers, horn and power antenna all function wonderfully with the power windows & antenna moving up and down smoothly. Even the radio works as it should.
Exterior: The Shadow Turquoise Poly paint is an amazing color that pops whether in daylight or not. While not perfect, the exterior paint is in original condition and believed to be all original free of any paint repairs. The paint does show some blemishes which consist of various chips, minor scratches, and minor blemishes. We would rate the exterior paint a 7 out of 10. With a proper paint correction and chip touch-up you can likely bring that up to an 8-8.5 out of 10. The vinyl top, lenses, and glass look fantastic. There is no rust on the body or underbody. There are many photos provided and available to accurately portray the condition.
Bright Work: The trim both stainless steel and chrome plating are all original and undamaged. The stainless-steel trim is about as nice as you’d expect to see. The chrome plating does show “peppering” or showing “freckles which is not pitting rather blemished, this is smooth to the touch. When admiring the car, this doesn’t catch your eye unless you inspect the finish within a closer range. If we were to rate the chrome, we would put this at a 7 out of 10.
Interior: The black vinyl seat upholstery with front & rear seat belts, still maintains the factory original comfort level. The door panels, sills & jambs are in remarkable condition as is the instrument panel & dash. Under the dash is a dealer-installed tissue dispenser and on the transmission hump a small dealer-provided garbage can holding a NOS Buick locking gas cap. Remaining beautiful and supple are the front and rear floor mats with the black carpet underneath in excellent shape. In the glove box you’ll find the original owner’s collection of roadmaps dating back to 1965 & 1966 along with some NOS Buick O-rings. Interior trim & the headliner are all in correspondingly similar condition. There’s also a Buick “Is a beauty too” accessory mirror behind the passenger’s sun visor. Like we said, this is a time capsule and we’ve provided the photos to prove it. We would rate the interior and trunk a 9.5 out of 10.
Trunk: The excellent original condition trunk compartment remains the exact way it was when we ended this 1966 Buick Wildcat’s almost 40-year hibernation. Check out the photos but to sum up, the trunk lining looks wonderful with minimal wear, the trunk mat is soft, pliable and dare we say, perfect. The original spare tire and cover looks great with original jack seemingly unused and like new. The decklid paint, hinges & trim are sweet with the original decals in place. Included with the sale are all of the original owner’s parts & personal items that we obtained with the car. NOS Windshield Washer Fluid Bottles, NOS AC Fire Ring Spark Plugs, NOS GM Highway Emergency Kit, the US ARMY issue shovel he kept when he left the service, a NY Times newspaper dated November 8, 1968 featuring Nixon election results and everything else pictured.
Engine Bay: The video and extensive engine bay photo collection tell the tale best but this in an original (except the battery, fuel pump & master cylinder) condition engine bay with the decals, hood insulation and everything all there. We have saved the original fuel pump and brake master cylinder for the next owner. We would rate the engine bay 8 out of 10.
